My room is on the second floor, and it is always very hot. We have been trying to conserve energy, so we turn the thermostate up a few notches, so it makes it even hotter. Also, it can't be anything permanent, because we are to move in a month or so. I already have a fan in my room, which I only turn on when I'm in there for a good amount of time. Does anyone have ANY ideas to help keep my room cooler? Also, I keep my window shades down, and it's way to hot outside for me to open the windows. Any ideas will be helpful. THANK YOU!!!

Get yourself a portable room swamp cooler. They work great and it sounds like you could use one. The initial cost can be around $200.00 but it only costs about the price of using a single lamp with a 100-watt bulb. The only time this is not an option is if your home is in an extremely humid area; otherwise, you will really love the moist cool air. To find out about it:

Why would you TURN UP THE THERMOSTAT IF YOU WANT THE TEMPERATURE TO GO DOWN?

If it's 80 in your room and you turn it up to 90? Then it's going to be 90.

You turn it DOWN TO 30. That way NO HEAT COMES ON AT ALL!

Buy a fan.

Try putting the fan in the window itself. It cools off the room like a miracle! It cooled off my in-laws house (which is an oven to me) so I could actually sleep comfortably.
