Same reason men have nipples - just in case!

Just kidding. ATM's are made in batches at the factory; the manufacturer doesn't know ahead of time which ones will be at drive-throughs and which will be at indoor locations. It's easier to just make them all with braille face plates during construction than to retrofit only certain ones later on.

Just because blind people dont drive does not mean they should not have an ATM whereby blind people are able to withdraw money.

I mean how many people do you see in Maccas that are wheel chair bound - but i bet there is a disabled toilet. Yes?

Maccas is seen as a place that is person friendly, so it's good PR if they have reserached the situation with a view of providing ameneties for all kind.

Love and joy

Any number of reasons:

* sudden unexpected flash blindness
* to give people a chance to practice brail
* some blind might walk up to the ATM drive-through
* a blind passenger might switch seats temporarily and use it

As dumb as that may sound, there really is a good reason for it. All of those machines are mass produced, like cars, radios, TV,.... The company that makes them usually don't know where they will by installed, so they put it on all of them.

Also by law ALL of them in the USA have to have brail.

I would assume it's so the manufacturers or the bank that has the ATM doesn't get sued by some blind person for "discrimination" or something of the likes. People are so eager to slap lawsuits on everything nowadays...

Joe's records is sturdy. something I merely choose to splendid through the undeniable fact that is a puppy peeve: huge sequoias and coastal redwoods are, in reality, 2 diverse species of tree... yet they're both "redwoods", and are both sequoias (in the subfamily sequoioideae). ie: huge sequoias are, in reality, redwoods (merely as coastal redwoods are, in reality, sequoias). there is not any "huge sequoias are better than redwoods" considering that, back, they're REDWOODS! back, only a puppy peeve at the same time as human beings say that, so had to sparkling it up. in the different case an striking answer (and mine isn't, i recognize).

That is by far, one of the best questions I've ever read on this site. Thought-provoking, though, isn't it?

A better question is, if they do have braille, why isn't there a handicapped lane?
