From some of the posts I read it is the American right wing and the bible thumpers that seem to want to control what I read think say and question far more than any other group I've encountered.
Perhaps it a small few that are very vocal or just idiots who got a computer I am not sure.
If I don't agree woth thier position I am either a traitor or stupid if I ask questions they don't like they assume I am against America if I dare question Israel and it's policy I am anti semite. The list goes on -

They seem more interested in controling everyone around them than anyone else. They seem at least one of the bigger threats to free anything I've ever seen.

Funny that maybe it's true you become what you fight and you are what you hate -

Oh no does that mean deep down I really want a Crown appointment so I can do nothing and make huge amounts of money for doing nothing??????.Hmmm His Excelency the lieut Govenor Trout of Ontario?????

Well.. hum... you have left me speechless. lol

Normally, I can come out with at least a few sentences but you said it all for me.

I am actually glad an 'outsider' sees this because this is what I have been saying for quite some time. It is impossible to even attempt to have a rational conversation with the right wing without them saying something like, "But GOD is on my side therefore I AM RIGHT." ***sigh***

Thanks

PS. Oh yea, to answer your question: yes we they are the biggest threat to 'freedom' because of what you described... they think they have the right to take others freedom, not only here in the USA but also in other countries. ie, Iraq. The irony is that Bush claims they are fighting against ppl who hate freedom.

I do believe you become what you hate and I too fear the American Right Wing or the incredibly conservative republican. I also fear the incredible American left wing but I digress. You probably figured this out by now but I support Israel in their yearly conflict with whomever they are threatened by. It is wise to question ones motives and why Israel feels threatened by Hezbollah. I believe Hezbollah started this conflict when they kidnapped the two Israeli soldiers and the reason so many Lebanese citizens are being killed is that Hezbollah is firing rockets from civilian areas. Israel than fires back and civilians are killed. I also think Israel may have over-reacted when when they attacked and attacked and attacked but Lebanon should not have a terrorist organisation in its country. Hopefully this horrible conflict will end soon and we will get back to the Iraqi's and Iran news that I have sorely missed these past two weeks. Are Americans still in Iraq? There has been so little information on it lately that I have forgotten.

I wouldn't mind a crown appointment and make tons of money for doing nothing. I guess the next best thing is to become an American Lawyer and sue everybody. I can't wait to start law school.

Not at all. You may feel threatened by those in the Christian right wing but they certainly do not represent the majority of Americans. They just happen to be the best organised and vocal in this period of time. The US has been through this before. (see prohibition) Sure they would love to turn America into a theocracy but it will NEVER HAPPEN. The pendulum is swinging back the other way already.

I think an extreme is dangerous in either direction. Extreme liberals can be just as dangerous on the other side of the scale. I am a vocal liberal, but I consider myself an active thinker and I don't take a party line lock, stock, and barrel.

Organized religion is, by nature, conservative. It's not necessarily extreme, however, as evidenced by a openly gay bishop in the Episcopalian church, for one thing... though that's caused strife and division with more right-leaning members.

Yeah, it's easy to become what we hate if we fight fire with fire. The best tact is to stay cool-headed and address each issue as it comes up, rather than taking a locked-in stance in one direction or the other. Despite being a liberal myself, I have some conservative views. We don't want to pigeon-hole ourselves... there are already plenty of other people out there trying to do it for us as it is.

The whole time Clinton was in office and was maintaining peace and cutting back military spending, the conservative joint chiefs of staff were chomping at the bit to get a repuke in office so they could start another little war to get their buddies like Boeing, IBM, and other corporate "fat cats" for government contracts for military buzzing again and resume getting the rich §۝β´§ money machines spinning out of control again.

Religion is the biggest threat to freedom. Those in control of America happen to be religious.
