I've heard of women being in labor for more than 24 hours, and I've heard of babies being two weeks overdue, but these are in extreme cases that don't happen very often.

The length of labor is never a certain amount of hours/days/etc. Every pregnancy is different. Usually in most cases but defiantly not all cases ... a woman is in labor for a long amount of time with her first child. This isn't always true though. My first I was in labor for 13 hours. My second I was in labor for only 3 . That includes from the first labor pain until my children were born. So, you never can tell how long you will be in labor.
The doctors will induce your labor if you go two weeks over.
I wish you well with your labor and your new baby. I hope he/she is healthy and that your labor is short . Remember no matter how long it takes with your labor or how painful .. you will be so overjoyed and filled with love and all the pain in the world will be well worth it!!
Take care and Blessings to you and your new baby.
Congratulations!!

Some women can be in labor for many hours. Average time is 12-15 hours.

Some women go past their due date , some by a couple of weeks. If it is beyond a 42 week pregnancy the labor is induced.

labor can last for 24 hrs +, my friend went 25 hours and my mother was 22 and 23 hours with both her children. Doctors do not generally allow it to go on for so long now a days, because it can kill both mother and child. Now about the overdue bit, most doctors allow for 2 weeks over, but generally not more than that

In a normal labor, the labor usually takes a few hours, and the baby and her mother stay in the hospital for two days.

In very rare cases, labor can take up to almost 48 hours, I think

Complications can lengthen the stay of the Mom, too.

I would suggest to the woman to wait as long as comfortable for her at home after labor starts before going to the hospital, I was in labor at least a few hours before going to the hospital, because once I got to the hospital they strapped this heavy monitoring device all around my stomach and I just had to lay there, it was very uncomfortable, and the constant freakin' beeping of the thing about drove me crazy. It was about 9 hours after I was in the hospital to have my first son. For my second son it took too long for my cervix to dilate, so I had to get this injection to speed up the labor, it went more quickly time-wise after that, but when you're in pain like that the time didn't seem fast at all to me at the time. So it all depends.

It takes as long as it takes. Each and every woman and birth are different. But being monitored by the nurses gives them the info they need to help speed things along especially if there is impatiency or danger. Some takes only hours and some takes days. A regular pregnancy takes 42 weeks give or take 2 weeks here or there.

Well, my wife was in the hospital for 3 darn days with our first child. In fact they replaced the old tv in the father's waiting room while I was in there. This may date me but the old one was black and white, the year 74.

I was sooo tired when my son popped out I fell asleep standing up at the viewing window. And thought it was a dream when I woke up later.

I think a month past the regular 9.

it could be days.. My mom was in labor with me for 2 days. as for past the expecte dtime, it happens often. if there is reason for alarm the doctors will take car eof it. there is no was to pinpoint the exact time it will happen, it's merley an estimate.

i was due the 26 of may, born the 31st :D
