No, I don't think that an IQ number can give you a well rounded enough picture to determine intelligence - though I think it can give you an idea of your aptitude for book smarts. I think that when all is said and done, your IQ doesn't matter much in this world except in highly specialized areas - but I think the same is true about grades, transcripts, etc. When all is said and done it is a combination of factors (your intelligence, your perseverance, your ability to quickly assess a situation and act accordingly, etc.) that makes you an "asset" - all of our unique qualities make us ideal for something.

Peace!

IQ is a measurement of what is called 'general intelligence'. General intelligence is the ability to recognise patterns, pathways, and solutions.

There are also other mental aptitudes that can be classified as other types of intelligence. Such aptitudes include long-term memory retention, short-term memory retention, visual memory, visualization, calculation, spatial rotation, and others.

I think only people who are insecure about their own IQ or level of intelligence dwell on the purpose/applications of IQ and ask such questions on Yahoo! Answers.
