A lubricant is a material that reduces friction between moving parts.
An example is oil for a car. It keeps the parts slick so they can move correctly and not overheat. If you put a drop of cooking oil on your fingers you will see that they are slippery so you can rub them together longer before it hurts.
So, the example you are probably asking about (since you put this in the teen section) is sex lubricant. When people have sex it is important to have some lubricant so it doesn't hurt. The women's body naturally produces lubricant but if it isn't enough then you can buy some products as well.
At 13, you should not be having sex. Although you probably find it to be an interesting subject, I hope you wait many, many years.
Be good, Alex. Take Care,

Lubricant is a water based jelly to allow easier entrance into places not so lubricated. When you go to the GYN and get a pap smear the doctor will put lubricant in and around your vagina so it doesnt hurt as much to put the spectrum(the thing they use to open your vagina for exam) in. It is used for sex and should be used with condoms so they dont break easily. The friction can tear the condom and that is not good. Also, it makes entrance into the vagina easier. sorry if thats TMI.I just feel you should know the truth.

Have you ever got a ring stuck on your finger? You probably tried to put oil, butter, dishwasher soap, or some other slippery substance to make it slip off easier. That's what a lubricant is. It's something that makes stuff more slippery.

Umm you're young so I'll try to keep it clean:
When you have sex using a condom, you put lubricant on to make "it" slippier so it can go in more easily.
Sorry to have to be the one that broke it to you...
She has a right to know, you guys. Weren't you ever 13??? When I was her age I was curious and I bet you were too.

A few different uses for it, but all have the same concept: to make sexual intercourse smoother and less painful. Whether its for a condom, or because the female does not produce enough natural lubricant herself before sex.
