Believe it or not, your teacher is most likely just as nervous as you about the new school year. Fifth grade is my favorite grade...that is why I teach it!! In fifth grade you will learn a lot about organization and responsibility. This is to prepare you for sixth grade, which in some districts is middle school/ junior high.

Here are some tips-
1. Be sure to LISTEN to your teacher and return homework on time.
2. Be sure your multiplication and division facts are memorized...you use them all throughout fifth grade.
3. Be sure to have a dictionary and thesaurus at home for homework.
4. Also, the more you read, the better you will become-so read, read, read!
5. Try and buy some index cards. You can use these for flash cards and studying.
6. Always answer questions in complete sentences.
7. Try to organize your desk and stay organized throughout the year.

Your teacher may have a specific way for you to organize your desk, of not here is an idea: What I have my studets do is to color-code their desks. What is that? Well, if your Math book is blue, try and buy a blue notebook and folder to match. If your history book is red, buy a matching red notebook and folder. You can do this for each subject.

I hope you have a fun year!!

Go to sleep at a decent hour.
Pay attention in class to everything I mean teachers and students.
Try to participate in everything you can, don't be afraid to make mistakes in class or in the yard. Making mistakes is a way of learning. Don't forget to enjoy, be happy don't let anyone or anything get you in a bad mood, because that can affect your concentration capability.
You really need to know your time tables. And reading comprehension is a must, so make it easy on yourself, read all the time, read things that you enjoy. This will increase your vocabulary and help your comprehension when you get to the boring stuff. Well let me tell you that nothing is really boring, it might seem to many that it is but it's because they really have no idea whats going on and they are lost. So don't stress yourself, but enjoy because it's the only year that you'll be in 5 th grade.

just dont worry about too much, enjoy it, because it just gets harder, do your homework everyday and make it a habit, this is important for the following grades where you dont have much time left, so if you are responsible you could get good grades and even have some spare time left to do whatever you want. im an 11th grader and i can tell you that if you begin being a responsible student, the other grades wont be so tough afterwards. you should worry to much right now, worry like when you go to 9th and up.

My daughter is too. She starts next week. I am a sub. teacher. I can tell you that your math and history will be important this year. Also science will play a big role in your studies. Just listen and pay attention to follow directions carefully.

You should do just fine. I promise I am telling her the same thing.
Good luck to you. Hope 5th grade is the best...

I just graduated from 5th grade and know exactly what to know and get. Get good ideas, lots of water and snacks (healthy), be nice to people, study, get lots of sleep. know your multiplication tables, spell check everything yourself (it's not that hard, you know.), have good friends, play your favorite sport often (you'll miss it in junior high), and help others in need of you. Be organized. You may have classes in different rooms to get you used to junior high at the end of the year. There'll be lots to do, and if you can keep up with it, you'll do fine!Follow what I just typed and you'll really enjoy your time in 5th grade.

Know your basic math facts. Also, have a grip on cursive handwriting. Teachers hate it when kids ask, "Do we have to write in cursive?" Let's see.....be organized and most of all, come to school prepared each day. Have all of the school supplies that you need. Oh, in the 5th grade they study US history, so start learning your states and capitals!

You will love 5th grade. You know how I know? I teach 5th grade!! Woo-Hoo!

Brush up on your Quantum Field Theory and get to work on proving the Riemann Hypothesis.

Or else you'll fail at life.
