I have a GP who thinks he is capable to be the physican to God himself. He might be right most of the time, but the jerk acts so completely rude that it is hard to accept any diagnosis he makes to get well or keep fit.
For example, I complained about foot pains and he told me to buy more expensive shoes at one of the most expensive places to shop! Like I had that kind of money. No suggestion of therapy or diet or anything else. No drug therapy or step up in exercises.
Buy more shoes, the expensive ones!
Would you keep a jerk like this? Do you think the show is giving otherwise good Doctors bad ideas?

Actually he told me to go to Dillards, and buy some expensive hard sole shoes. Like that was really telling me what I needed to know. I mean, he tells me a store that sells all sorts of shoes. AND he says I need to get a new pair every 3 months.

First off if my GP talked to me the way Dr House does... he would definitely get an ear full, he comes off as a total jerk.(not what I wanted to call him) What kind of shoes did your doctor tell you to buy?? If he said that you should get some like birkenstocks, let me give you a website that I use to get mine, and believe it or not they have some really great sales on them. I wear them because I have really bad knees and a bad back and let me tell you they make a huge difference. Go to www.german-shoes-online.com and you will be amazed at all the different styles there are and check out the sales. At the local store here they start out at $90 and I have gotten them for $40, depending on the styles. Sometimes cheap shoes can cause foot pain and other problems. Give him the benefit of the doubt about the shoes, and if he still talks to you like a jerk, let him know, or find a new one.

No, it doesn't give other doctors bad names. It depends on how each individual doctor chooses to act. I would get another doctor if I were you. However, as for the TV show, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! I think Dr. Gregory House is the best character on television right now, aside from Gil Grissom of CSI. There is no way a doctor would get away with most of that stuff in real life. It's just another TV show that dramatizes a career field to make it seem more interesting.

Absolutely I would keep him. When a health issue becomes a matter of life and death, I'd rather have a B$%^ard DR who knows what they're doing than some sweet as pie guy who doesn't know how to cure me. Maybe your Dr was just trying to tell you that your foot complaints were nothing to worry about.
