i can understand the fun of being at the track, in a party atmosphere with lots of people, but the race itself is what i find extremely boring(unless there is a colossal wreck).

except for the prospect of getting stinking drunk and watching people in the crowd act like complete fools, i would never sit down and watch cars going around in circles. i dont care how fast they are going. it is relative, when everyone is going roughly the same speed, it looks the same whether going 50 or 200.

why do people like it? why watch it on TV?

OH MY DEAR...I WOULD LOVE TO ANSWER YOUR ?
I REMEMBER SAYING THE SAME THING TO MY BOYFRIEND YEARS AGO...I TOLD HIM HOW LAME HE WAS WATCHING CARS GO AROUND AND AROUND TURNING LEFT...THEN...HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED...I STARTED TO GET TO KNOW THE DRIVERS....ALSO REALIZING, NOT MANY PEOPLE CAN DRIVE LIKE THAT....EARNHARDT (WHO I HATED WHILE HE WAS ALIVE...WITH ALL DUE RESPECT...I MISS HIM SO MUCH NOW) AND I STILL HATE JEFF GORDON AND TONY STEWART!!! WHEN I SAY HATE, I WOULD NEVER EVER WISH A WRECK OR DEATH ON ANYONE...I STILL REMEMBER THE DAY OF HIS DEATH...WATCHING THAT RACE...GOD BLESS HIM...
ANYWAY, I DECIDED TO JUST PICK A CAR SO I WOULD HAVE SOMEONE TO ROOT FOR AND GET IN ON THE NASCAR POOL ;) I CHOSE THE CAT CAR (CATERPILLAR) BECAUSE I LIKED THE CAR
MY DRIVER WAS WARD BURTON AND EVERYONE MADE FUN OF HIM AND ME...YEAH, I KNEW HE SUCKED, BUT HE WAS MY DRIVER...AND THEN HE WON DAYTONA 500..LOL!!
AT LEAST I WASN'T SOME TRENDY IDIOT THAT JUST PICKED EARNHARDT JR. OR GORDON JUST BECAUSE AND NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT RACING LIKE SO MANY OVERNIGHT RACING FANS....I CAN'T BELIEVE I ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT A RESTRICTOR PLATE IS NOW :)
ANYWAY...I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM AS I USED TO BE THERE...I GUESS WHAT GOT ME ADDICTED WAS JUST WATCHING THE RACING...GOD CRANKING UP THE SURROUND SOUND WHEN THOSE CARS ARE RACING AND AGAIN, ONCE YOU FINALLY KNOW THE DRIVERS...YOU JUST GET ATTACHED...AND I LOVE TO HEAR D.W. ON SUNDAYS...BOOGETY BOOGETY BOOGETY...LET'S GO RACING BOYS....NOT MANY PEOPLE CAN SAY THEY CAN DRIVE LIKE THAT...IF THEY COULD, THEY WOULD BE AT NASCAR AND NOT ON YAHOO...RIGHT???

ALSO...SERIOUSLY, DON'T EVER, EVER LAUGH OR CHEER A WRECK...MANY OF US LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY AND WITH NO HARM INTENDED....WHEN YOU HEAR ON THE NEWS THAT THE PERSON DIED...THERE'S NOTHING TO LAUGH ABOUT...THESE PEOPLE HAVE FEELINGS, LOVED ONES, FAMILIES, JUST LIKE YOU SO YOU GOTTA BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU LAUGH AT...I WILL NEVER FORGET GOING TO THE DRAG RACES, SEEING MY DEAR FRIEND CATCH ON FIRE...AND ACTUALLY NOT MAKING IT THROUGH...IT WAS YEARS AGO, YET EVEN AS I TYPE THIS...I CAN'T BELIEVE IT...EITHER CAN HIS 4 BOYS

I asked my husband the same thing 3 yrs ago. THEN I went to a Nascar race! WOW!!!!
The allure is the skill and yes, even the drama:) among the drivers. You get to know the drivers and follow their career. Some you love, some you hate. As it has been said already a million times...nascar is far more then "just driving a car in circles."
...and well...we cannot forget...hot guys driving fast cars....yum;)

It just about became. I predicted Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin to steer an mind-blowing form of the race, yet i in my view concept Jeff could have a raffle on the tip. nonetheless, we observed an mind-blowing race the day previous particularly while Jimmie and Denny have been battling hard late interior the race. that's what short music racing is all approximately!

if you don't understand it's not something that can be explained to you. nascar fans are a breed of their own.. trust me, there is no way to put into words how a fan like me looks on the sport.. and why it's entertaining. i'm addicted.
yes, i prefer to watch it live, but will crank it up on my tv any given day of the week.

i too was like you until i saw dale jr on jay leno a month after his dad died. (what a hottie.)
when you pick a driver to root for and develop a dislike for other drivers. it can get fun. when you learn who's who. And learn the terms, like bump drafting, restictor plates, and coil springs.
Then listening to wally say silly stuff like "jeff gordon just bumped johnson in the rear" not realizing what he said. It gets pretty funny.
And yes, there are times when it can get boring. even for the most diehard of fans.

It's the sound of the engines, the thrill of cheering for your favorite driver, the smell of the exhaust...
I love to hear the engines on my surround sound for me NASCAR is like the hugest turn on but I love all racing
