Get your Operating System's install CD and put it in your CD drive.
Shut down your computer.
Start up your computer (you must have CD drive as first boot device in your system BIOS) for this to work.
After you make that change if you must, then reboot and your OS will try to install on your hard drive from your CD rom drive.
You will be given an option to do a fresh install or repair. Do the fresh install after you do the option of keeping the current operating system or not. You would not keep the current OS. You would then format the partiton you want to install the OS on.
Once it reboots after install and you make all the necessary changes asked of you, be sure to install your anti-virus software before you go onto the Internet to get OS updates. Keep your av software running and update often. Then get your OS updates.

Good luck.

What is your laptop's configuration? what CDs came with it? What operating system you have on it? These are the necessary information which are required to suggest a remedy.

Check if you have Windows XP CD. Insert it in your drive and reboot your system, press a key to boot from CD when prompted. The system shall start installing WinXP anew. Follow the onscreen instructions. Opt for appropriate option for formating the drive when appeared. Good luck!

You need to have a windows setup disc, when the computer is first turning on, press the del key, or f12, should bring you to your bios or boot order menu, make sure you are booting to your cd-rom first. Let the computer restart, insert the windows setup disc. When it says 'press any key to boot from cd-rom' press a key. Pick new installation, and delete the partition, make sure you format ntfs, your computer will be more stable,.. then it will copy files from the cd-rom to your hard drive, restart itself,.. then you will be in windows install program, which is pretty easy, just follow the directions,..

you can either use the restore cd that came with it, or, use an original windows cd, preferably xp. or, click on start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. system restore should set everything back to it's original settings.
