I need a place to change my oil in my 05 jetta car. The dealer told me I had to take it to them only because other people might mess it up or do it wrong. They close when I get out of work and they charge 50 bucks to do it. I have called a couple of known oil change places and they dont change diesel oil cars. Im frustrated about this. anybody know any place in san antonio that changes diesel oil cars?????

I ask the dealer what kind of oil they use he said a "specail blend synthetic oil" only used by the dealer. that sounds like BS to me.

I usually drive a Jetta with my hands on the wheel! Seriously though, 50 bucks is too much for a 4 cyl diesel oil change. Any repair facility can change your oil as long as they use the same grade oil that your owner's manual states that the engine requires. It is required by law that if a dealer requires you to have oil changes performed by them for warranty purposes, that they must supply the product for free. They cannot make you have oil changes done there. Just make sure you keep the receipts for all of your maintenance work, because if there ever is a concern, the manufacturer may ask for proof that you had the maintenance performed, such as oil changes, tire rotations, air filter, etc.

Update: I did more research on your oil change question. According to your owner's manual VW requires a "special" 5W-40 weight oil for the diesel, that meets the Volkswagen standard 505.01. Good news is that there are other oil brands that meet this standard. Bad news is trying to find an oil change center that actually carries it in stock, because these are high end oils. You should be able to find some of these oils at the local parts store, and then could take it with you to an independant garage to have the oil changed. It will still be in the 40 dollar range to go this route. Here is a list of some of the oils that are on Volkswagen's approved oils for your engine.

Castrol GTD 505 01
Castrol TXT 505 01
Mobil Synt S Special V
Quaker State Diesel Plus
Shell Helix Diesel Plus VA
Sunoco Ultra Semi Synthetic
Texaco Havoline 505.01
Valvoline DuraBlend Diesel motor oil

And remember if purchasing your own oil and filter, to save all of your receipts for everything, in case of a problem, the manufacturer may want proof that you had maintenance performed.
Hope this helps.
