"format" the drive is the only way to erase everything on the drive. Before formatting, You should have a "start up" or "boot disk" for your OS.

Here is a download link, you can download it free.

Resatrt your computer, then press "delete". You will get a startup screen. On that choose your First boot option as "floppy" and save your setting. It will load then finally you will get a dos prompt like "A:\>"

Type "format C:" than follow the easy instructions on your screen.

I've heard of programs you can use that will help you erase all the personal information, but haven't used them, so I can't give specific recommendations. If you want a completely blank drive with nothing on it you could reformat it, but you might want to get more information before you do that.

Restart and reboot your computer by using the bootup disk.
Once your are in the MSDOS, type "format c:", then press enter to confirm the formatting.
Once done, move in again to MSDOS, select your CDROM drive and reinstall the Windows 2000!
