Fidel Castro took power in a military coup in 1959 and established a communist government, he instated free health care, and socialized farming and industry. The entire economy is controlled by Fidel Castro, and the nation is very poor.

The myth is that Cuba is a communist country (same with North Korea) and everyone as you know under communism is equal in wealth, health and standing.
That's a lot of bull. Castro promised his people freedom from a very corrupt goverment and with America's help he was able to over throw the old dictator. Instead after removing the corrupt goverment he immediately installed a dictatorship. His is a one man rule and will be if his brother takes over. Castro let down his people whom he promised freedom The party crap is only a myth. under communism if there could be a true communist state and there never has been, the party rules.Castro installed himself as president and dictator of Cuba and that is all he is. For many year she nearly bankrupted the Soviet Union which was the only thing that kept him alive. Had he not allowed so many Cubans(who were starving I might add) to leave for the United States his goverment would have fell years ago. Castro kept his job because he removed opposition form Cuba by deportation or allowing them to leave or murder. If Cuba is so great why are Cubans and others not fighting to get into the country. I agree with you:)

The resources and businessed in Cuba were primarily owned by US companies. Living conditions were poor for many Cubans. There was a revolution which ended in the early 1950's as I recall. Castro was a socialist revolutionary who after the revolution tryed to talk to the American Government they woudl not deal with him so he nationalized the Cuban Industries and threw out the American companies.
/Currently Cuba has enough food for people and there is free health care and other social programs but the majority of the country is poor. There is trade with other countries but Cuba cannot get access to everything they need to build their economy.
He turned to Russia for assistance and they formed an alliance during the cold war. This had been a source of concern for the US and boiled up to the Cuban Missle crises. Cuba was blockaded by US ships and finally the Russians removed the missiles.

The US will not trade with Cuba or allow travel to Cuba. This continues today. It is thought that normal relations will resume when Fidel is dead.

huh... you don't know anything about Cuba's history? You should check it out and look past the propoganda... both American and Cuban. Btw, Cuba is suffering because there is an American blockade on the island so all the food and other goods that they have must be rationed or else everybody starves. Basically the news story is that Fidel Castro has to get surgery and so he wants his brother, Raul to watch over things while he is going through the operation.
