Well, definitely not fries. Almost any other potato dish would work. Best factor to consider would be the method of preparation of the steak.

Regular grilled steak - baked potato with TONS of butter. (My poor arteries).
A Salisbury steak with gravy, onions, mushrooms, etc - mashed potatoes (with garlic).
