No, he is a different type of player. Keane is a box-to-box dynamo with a great engine, hard tackling abilities and a very hot head. Carrick is more of a cultured midfielder in the Deschamps mold, stopping attacks by interception rather than tackling. Only time will tell if he will be AS EFFECTIVE as Keane, but he's a good purchase for the club.

There isn’t a slightest chance for him to replace keane, keane was god in Man U. But Carrick is a excellent player and has really good skills, so he can save Manchester from going down, they were weak in the middle, I mean lets face it – smih is attacker not a playmaker, but anyway Carrick can be nothing but benefit to M U…

Nobody is expecting him to replace Roy Keane, that would be impossible as there is only one Roy Keane, Michael is more than capable of playing his own style of Football, and I think he will be an asset to Manchester United, as long as people are willing to give the poor lad a chance. The season has not started yet, so why not wait until start playing him, then you can form an honest opinion based on fact not guess work.

He is something different for Manchester United. Replacement for Keane, no as they are different sort of players. Fergie may play a different system with Carrick placing the defensive midfield role.

Say, ManU desperately need someone to play the holding/defensive midfield role and Carrick presents a good case to fill that void.
However, I don't think he's going to be as influential to the team as Keane. Let's hope he won't because Freggie may abandon him like all the other players who has the ball to stand up against him.

No one could replace Keane, but Carrick is a good player and will help the team a good deal. He is an excellent passer and can help start the attack.

replacing keane is impossible but i think he will do his best to inspire the team like keane did..we've seen him played a very good season at spurs and won some caps for England during the world cup..if we expect him to be immediately as good as keane, that's not gonna happen..but in time, he will develop to the very best..
