When a person passes away, how soon is the death certificate available in the town hall or state public records?

From 4-5 wks normally, but it varies according to where you live, and the backlog if any.

One thing for certain, it never gets to town hall or state public records right away and you only get it after it's properly filed

Depends on the town, but around here it is available within three working days. The state records may not show it publicly as recorded for a good while though.

If the death is something that was expected (like a terminal illness) then I have gotten them in as few as 10 days. Other than that it is up in the air....as long as two years for one before.

we got ours for our grandmother, father and uncle the day of the funeral from the funeral home ..they provide them for you and if you want more you can call them or you can go directly to the vital statistics office in your city and pay like $3 or $4 for more
