I never expected such naive responses to such a thoughtful question.
Of COURSE humans are biologically polygamous - in potential if not in practice.
Most of western civilization is culturally monogamous, and given infidelity rates, we're not very good it.
Think about it. How many people do you know who have only ever had sex with one person? That's a rhetorical question, of course, because the answer is zero. People seldom marry their first sex partner. We don't meet our soulmate when we are 17 and spend eternity in bliss. Most folks shop around in some fashion. We date. We enter commited relationships. We try out different people to see what we like and what we don't. Some folks just whore around. But all the while we are racking up sex partners. Even if it's done one at a time, the desire is there. Behind the advanced mind we are but animals.
There's a difference between fidelity and monogamy. Being faithful is a choice...choosing attraction is not. I do admire the optimism.
