I went and saw them over the weekend, and Robin sang the songs (of course), but Rick did all the talking and banter between songs. Now I know Robins voice isn't what it used to be, but he has to save his voice so bad that he can't talk?

Okay, I should have mentioned that I saw them about ten years ago, and as I recall, Robin and Rick shared 'banter duty'...
Oh yeah, and for those who don't know, Robin (Zander) is a dude...not a 'she'...

To a dynamic vocalist like Robin Zander, such people take their voices very seriously--like Rick and Tom with their guitars or Bun E. with the drums. Zander may be highly sensitive to his use of his voice, limiting it to the task at hand---singing.
Bear in mind, his work with Cheap Trick has him on some songs doing some amazing vocal dynamic ranges from high to low pitches and tones in between....the very thing that helped him and the Cheap Trick rocket to fame in the 70s.
I noticed pretty much the same thing with Steve Walsh of Kansas recently, too. I guess with age comes more care of vocal chords.

I saw them in Conan and he didn't say a word after. It's possible that switching your vocal chords from singing to talking mode could affect vioce control. He sings a lot of high pitched songs, sometimes it's hard to get back up to that level once you've started singing. And of course age has an effect on that too.
