I'm trying to look it up, but I don't think having had a period is a requirement to have a yeast infection. I mean, I believe you can get them no matter what, seeing as how a guy can get a yeast infection, too. Any excess moisture down there can cause yeast to rapidly grow. There is always a small amount of the cells that cause yeast infections, but if something upsets that balance and the yeast cells (candida something or other) grow rapidly, a yeast infection occurs.
Some reasons that may have caused her to have a yeast infection:
-taking antibiotics
-diabetes
-tight fitting pants that don't absorb moisture (think nylon panties or sitting around in a wet swimsuit)
-feminine hygiene sprays, perfumes, talcs, douching
However, she may not have a yeast infection at all. If she's trying to avoid a Dr. visit, she could try one of the over the counter remedies (Monistat - try Walmart or a pharmacy) and if the symptoms don't go away, then it's something else.

Tell your "friend" that it sounds like "she" should get that checked out. It should not smell funky or be itchy so "she" should go to a gyno.

it's probally a yeast infection...tell her go to the doctor to get checked out...our tell her to wash her self real good....or tell her to take a bath and put only 2 capfulls of bleach in her bath water...and if it doesn't stop the infection or the itiching then she needs to go to the doctor ASAP

It could possibly be a yeat infection, or a chemical imbalance in her vagina caused by douching. She should go to a gynocologist.

hmm. well if she doesnt have her period yet, its prolly just a lil bacterial infection, if she does, it could be a yeast infection, or another sickness.
