If I pay a couple of kids to stand outside a company on the sidewalk and hold up signs advertising another company that pays better...is this illegal.

I know it's in bad taste but it's just a question and I want to know if I'm breaking the law in California

Thanks.

You need to check local laws. I would think you could peacefully demostrate in front of any where. AS long as its not privite property. good luck star

Tell the kids not to harass anyone entering or leaving the other business. They can be on the street/sidewalk that is a public venue, but they cannot be loud or obstruct the entrance/exit from the building.
Good luck.

You will need to check local laws. In El Cajon, CA, they have a law prohibit sidewalk advertising. It is supposed to be fore safety reasons. The legality of the law has not been tested in court. See the link below.

Sidewalk is the key word. If the sidewalk abuts a PUBLIC street, more than likely the sidewalk is public too. You are legal!

Many cities have zonning issues of public protesting or picketing. They may require a permit, insurance or a fee paid.
I would check with the local city court to be sure they don't have any real issue with it.
