the reason you can't is the same reason we have free will,
only scientific experiments or mathematical dogma offer proof,
the best you can do is weigh the evidence like a courtroom jury does..(not always correct)
videos and eye-witnesses have sent innocents to death row.
my buddy cheats at golf... i concluded he was lying when he got a hole in one and wrote down zero on his scorecard...

Usually if you have an intuition that someone is lying then your usually right. Pay attention to what they say, and take mental notes. The person will slip up eventually, and that's when you should confront him or her. There are people that I know and they are flat out liars. I still associate with them, but I expect them to be who they are. It doesn't bother me that they are liars. I just do not have that person as a friend, but an associate. I know what to tell them, and what not to tell them. Then again like I said it's in some people nature to just lie. Because I think the person tries to be something that they are not. Instead of being themselves! Those people never keep friends. Good Luck!

You can't. Lie detector tests don't always work when a person can convince themselves they aren't lying under pressure. Having them swear to something only works on people who are superstitions. If you want to prove it, you have to catch them in the act or get a Private Investigaor, or become one yourself.

They say most people cannot tell a lie while looking directly into your eyes (but I'm sure there are a few with almost no conscience who can. There's always an exception). When I taught seventh grade, I could always tell when my students lied, because they would just stand there for a moment after they lied to me, as if they were waiting to see if I caught them. If it weren't for that fact, they would have gotten away with more :)

I've never seen it fail - people look to their left when their lying or feeling guilty, watch a court show or your local gossip - you'll see what I mean
some psychological reason prolly relating to the left hemisphere of the brain, and involinatary muscle movement as they search their analitical side for a workable lie

To be a liar, two conditions have to be met:
- What someone is saying must be untrue.
- That person must know what what they are saying is untrue.
The only way to PROVE someone is a liar is to find evidence that supports each of these points. No small task.

You can use the swear to god method, but that doesn't always work. the only other way real way is to go buy a lie detector. if you can't, you gotta learn how to threaten people. Get aggressive, sit the mofo down, engage him/her in a battle of wits, they might start breathing heavily, sweat , pee there pants, that's when you know it's working....sooner or later they'll crack,

Ask them and usually liars will look off to the left.. don't know why but it is usually a huge indicator of truth and easier than a lie detector.

Hook them up to a lie detector. Otherwise, threaten to punch them in the gut if they lie. They might be forced to tell the truth for fear of a beating.
