Once, as a child, when I was very sick with the sniffles, my fathers told me "shut the hell up you little prick its only the sniffles, you'll never be able to join the NHL," and at that point I learned that burning Paprika smells really really bad.

The essence of humanity is the capacity to reason, and because of our capacity to reason we are able to make informed choices, something no other species can do. Dogs can choose to listen to their masters or ignore them, but they cannot reason that if they choose not to listen there will be consequences. Humans however, know that there are consequences to all actions, and are able to make decisions based on comparative reasoning. And making decisions is the essence of harmonious or disharmonious coexistence with our fellow being and species.

Empathy and Compassion separate us from the other opposable thumb equipped beings. Our advantage then is acting on that basis in the greater communal good. Unfortunately, we don't exercise this option as often as we should.

we got a break from the jungle at the right time, so we evolved and got spare time to think and reason. technically, practically any animal could fit into our human-like categorie if given enough time and the right cirumstances. let's hope that they won't **** up the planet as much as us though.

One advantage is that we have more types of hunger than animals (for example intellectual hunger), and therfore we also have more types of satisfactions.
