A while back (last week?), a telemarketer (I think it was a financial group) called me at a number listed on the National Do Not Call list. He said that he was interested in me personally (after talking to me for less than a minute...*ponders*). Today, he called back and I asked him to remove me from his company's list and that he was violating the law by calling. He reiterated that he was calling for personal purposes. I said to please stop calling and that it made me uneasy. Are there laws to regulate this kind of behaviour? Are telemarketers allowed to glean phone numbers from their company's list and call people for their personal entertainment? And I'm not sure if it matters but he may not be from the United States (where I am) but the company headquarters are in the U.S.
(Sorry, I didn't know which category to place this question in. Nothing quite matches.)

When he called yesterday, I asked him to stop calling and hung up. Just because I am polite does not mean that I am asking to be harassed.
I called the police station and, after a twenty-five minute hold, was told to go online to file a report. This took all of one minute. The representative hung up and I did not have a chance to ask for more information. I downloaded two reports online (these are the only likely forms I could find): Citizen Crime Report (and supplemental form).
I only have a first name. I didn't understand what he was saying regarding his company because his English is halting.
He has not called back yet.
I tried calling the phone company last night immediately after I spoke with the police department to see if they could give me the phone number but it was past the office hours.
I called this morning and they told me they could not give me incoming phone numbers, regardless of the nature of the call.
