A while back (last week?), a telemarketer (I think it was a financial group) called me at a number listed on the National Do Not Call list. He said that he was interested in me personally (after talking to me for less than a minute...*ponders*). Today, he called back and I asked him to remove me from his company's list and that he was violating the law by calling. He reiterated that he was calling for personal purposes. I said to please stop calling and that it made me uneasy. Are there laws to regulate this kind of behaviour? Are telemarketers allowed to glean phone numbers from their company's list and call people for their personal entertainment? And I'm not sure if it matters but he may not be from the United States (where I am) but the company headquarters are in the U.S.

(Sorry, I didn't know which category to place this question in. Nothing quite matches.)

When he called yesterday, I asked him to stop calling and hung up. Just because I am polite does not mean that I am asking to be harassed.

I called the police station and, after a twenty-five minute hold, was told to go online to file a report. This took all of one minute. The representative hung up and I did not have a chance to ask for more information. I downloaded two reports online (these are the only likely forms I could find): Citizen Crime Report (and supplemental form).

I only have a first name. I didn't understand what he was saying regarding his company because his English is halting.

He has not called back yet.

I tried calling the phone company last night immediately after I spoke with the police department to see if they could give me the phone number but it was past the office hours.

I called this morning and they told me they could not give me incoming phone numbers, regardless of the nature of the call.

If you were in The Great State of Texas you could file harassment charges against him.
You mean to say that he is try to go out with you? Not to solicit for his company right?
This is a form of stalking, you should report this to your local police department and file a report.
I am guessing you have the number and names and all that. If you have any means of recording the conversation then I would recommend it and if you dont then radio shack has a lil plug in device that works well with most any recorder (20.00). Anyway, I would definitely call the police and make the report.

The question is... why do you stop and talk to him? You have the power to hang up. I really don't find it a hassle. When I am called by an annoying telemarketer, I just hang up once I realize he is a telemarketer. What the hell is with the "Oh, sorry, I am not interested." crap? Just hang up. Say "F**k you" if you want. It does not matter. It is just a voice on the phone.

But if this guy is really creeping you out, report it to the police. I think this guy was purposely trying to creep you out just to have some fun. Telemarketers phone so many people that they themselves become tired and annoyed.

My advice for you is to do this when an telemarketer calls you:

*ring*

"Hello?"

"Hi this is ATC and company calling you for a..."

*hang up*

That is all!

this guy sounds a lot more like a stalker than a telemarketer. if he is truly bothering you then you can get his number from caller id, *69, your phone bill or have the phone company get it for you. i'm guessing he's not a telemarketer at all and is just trying to get info out of you. if he's just some guy, as i suspect, you can get a restraining order forbidding him to contact you in any way.
if he does turn out to be a telemarketer call the company and give his name and explain the creepiness.
legally speaking, as of now, the do not call registry is on the honor system only. most companies adhere to it but some are choosing to ignore it.

He is obviously not going to give you his supervisors number. try to trick him into giving you HIS work number and extension. Then you could call back and ask for the boss. Otherwise, if he keeps it up the phone company can create a call log, bu thet is time consuming and takes a while.
