I'm the same way. I can see a stranger walking down the street and tell you how they are by looking at them. It might be exactly true at that moment about the person or it may be a long time before the person shows how my first impression of them was correct when they finally show their true self. Either way I was right with my impression. Its like everyone puts off a signal just by the way they look, act, and the way they present themselves. You are able to see right through a person just by quietly observing them and coming in tune with this signal. Most people are able to do this but a few people can see the subtle things in each person outside of the things which stand out. The most common phases used with this are that a person is a good judge of character or they have good intuition.

You must be a very observant person like myself. Of course, I know why I can see right through people. It's because I am kind of a quiet person and because of that I just stand back and watch people. I watch their mannerisms, the way they interact with other people and the way they handle situations. I think anyone can do that, it's just a matter of actually doing it.

I tend to think of it as extrasensory perception in the most literal sense possible of that phrase: you're picking up on body language etc. that, whether intuitive or developed over time, you've come to (rightly) associate with a certain kind of person. Along with body language, you've probably picked up other patterns that people tend to share in different situations.

It is call intuition. Almost everyone can do it.
I call it my BS meter. It works 99% of the time.
