yep, and so are the people who go along with it. I would love to put those people in a room, with a car truck, smoke stack from a factory, perfume, Cologne and aerosol sprays, plus the fuel that is dumped from planes before landing or after take off, and see if they survive. Then times that by a billion. We are not in the film Demolition Man or Escape from LA.

I agree that some of the smoking bans are stupid - I think that restaurants should be able to choose whether they are a smoking or non-smoking establishment. There have been countless business that have gone under because of the new smoking bans. Although some smokers can be selfish, most are very sensitive and respectful to non-smokers, and should at least be given some type of designated area to smoke. The government doesn't tell alcoholics they can't drink, or tell fat people they can't eat chips....why sell the cigarettes if you're just going to restrict their usage?

I asked a similar question yesterday. I can see it from different perspectives. Public health or human rights? Either way, someone loses. If there aren't any bans, the non-smokers suffer. If there are bans, the smokers suffer. Personally, I am in favour of smoking bans but only to a certain degree. I am for indoor smoking bans in confined places such as restaurants, airplanes, classrooms, etc. These are places where children are present and toxins can damage their still-growing bodies. Smoking causes cancer and a whole slew of other diseases. Smokers are also more likely to have fertility problems. Second-hand smoke is even more dangerous since people breathe it in unfiltered (it's the reason I have asthmatic problems). Outdoor smoking bans are ridiculous though and I don't see how it could be regulated.

I think it has gone a little too far. I agree with places having a smoking and a non-smoking section, but to ban smoking in a whole town is a little out there.

No, I actually like the bans. I use to be against it until I visited New York City. You did not stink like smoke when you left. The plus side for smokers is that you can all hang outside and smoke together and socialize with light minded people...and good way to meet someone...

Restrictions are fair. Banns however are not. People are using a highly taxed legal product. Why can't they use it in a place designated for them? Businesses spent lots of money accommodating smokers, and now that money is wasted because of the smoking banns. Ever been to an NFL stadium? What is more abusive: a smoker or the drunk? What is worse: smoking and driving or drinking and driving? That's my opinion.

I think it's stupid to ban smoking in bars. That's like banning loud music at a rock concert.

They ARE stupid! If you don't like the smoke, don't sit in the smoker's section of the restaurant or move somewhere else where the smoke doesn't bother you! Smoker's shouldn't be inconvenienced just because some whiney cry babies think they should be able to have us bend over backwards for them!

no, I used to smoke and I didn't like smoking around other people because I know it's not good for anyone.
Now that I don't smoke I'm really glad they have smoking bans. I can acually go out now and not have a headach after being in a bar for 30 minutes.

No, I think they are great for us non smokers, we have rights too and you people are ignorant to that. You must not have any idea what its like for a non smoker to enter an area where people are smoking. We can get dizzy, light headed, nauseous and get a headache. Not to mention the smell. It is really disgusting. If you want to smoke that is all fine and dandy, but myself and my children shouldn't have to breathe in your second hand smoke. There is enough pollution in the world to deal with already. It's about time there are laws out there to protect our health.
