You could get VERY sick from it. You might even go crazy.
Heres what I found:

Lack of sleep may also result in irritability, blurred vision, slurred speech, memory lapses, overall confusion, hallucinations, decreased sex drive, nausea, psychosis, and eventually death

There are no documented cases of a healthy human dying from total sleep deprivation (excluding accidents), aside from those suffering from Fatal Familial Insomnia. In carefully monitored experiments, several normal research subjects stayed awake for 10 days. While they all experienced cognitive deficits in memory, concentration, etc, none of them experienced serious medical, neurological, physiological or psychiatric problems [1]. Total sleep deprivation in rats leads to death in around 28 days. Death occurs later if only REM sleep is eliminated. In humans, extended sleep deprivation causes microsleep sessions to develop. A person who has fatal familial insomnia may die after several months with no sleep at all; people without this condition may experience dementia or develop permanent personality changes within the first few weeks.

Yes absolutely,

can't believe that you are so ignorant, why did you not discuss this with your doctor first?

There is a particular condition which is characterized by a kind of acute insomnia eventually leading to a total inability to sleep and eventual death over some months (don't worry, it's genetic and rare).
Death in recent years has been recorded in the case of a number of computer gamers staying awake and playing all night without a break or sleep, heart attack is recorded as cause of death so you need to watch out for stress levels.

Far more likely than death is that you will suffer long term psychological damage, attempts in the past have often resulted in long term and enduring psychosis.

Give it up now, you will probably sleep for about 18 hours on your first sleep and the following day your sleep patterns should return completely to normal.

Don't do things like this without medical supervision.

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.

I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.

I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)

Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

I don't believe your body will let you die from lack of sleep. I think your body will protect you and make you crash. I do believe that it can be fatal if you are using chemical means to stay away. I remember hearing about a meth head, going crazy from lack of sleep. Your body can't sort it's thoughts out and process new information, causing an overload.

You are no doubt aware that sleep deprivation was used as a method of torture for POW? Basically you will broken down psychologically (go crazy) if this is forced upon someone too long. Interestingly, the brain will actually fail to function for a split second if you go long enough without sleep. I would think putting this type of stress on a body for too long could be fatal is carried to extremes. I would suggest having someone monitor your vitals.

Well, you can't stay awake completely for extended periods of time without your body shutting down on you.
However, if you're bound and determined to make yourself miserable, try setting an alarm to wake you up every few hours or so before you leave your REM cycle.
You won't get any real rest, but you won't die either!

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

From what I know, the longest time spent without sleep was 11 days. People who go without sleep lose their abilities to think and to concentrate. It is possible to die with lack of sleep because sleep is used by your body to recuperate. The less sleep you get, the more problems you have with your memory and concentrating. You become irritated the less sleep you get.

Let's see if you'll be able to break this record.

If you could keep yourself awake contiuously, you probably could die from lack of sleep, but it is impossible to stay awake that long. Your brain takes over and the subconscious controls put you into mini-sleeps, even as your conscious mind is trying to stay awake. The body is pretty good at protecting itself against the dumb things we try to do to it!
