Derek Jeter!

First off let me say this one of the most important things 4 an mvp is that ur team does good so whoevers teams dont make the playoffs(mathews and ichiro) they are out right there. Now if the redsox make the playoffs it will be papi hands down in a landslide. For all u people who said jeter i bet he isnt in the top five. Do these sound like MVP numbers to u 7hr and 65rbi's hey kolacki22 do those sound like good power numbers to u.(jeter is a 4 tool player). There are only three 5 tool players in the league beltran sori and arod. Well since beltran and sori are nl and arod certainly aint gettin mvp this year i think ur 5 tool theory is out the window. It is most VALUABLE player not Best player and that is y big papi gets it. W/o him the red sox are nothing!

This year there is no one standing in the way of David Ortiz. While it is true that Ortiz doesn't play much defence, only about 9 games at 1st this year, either does Thome. Pitchers in the American League don't bat and there have been a few pitchers as MVP.

When it comes down to it, the MVP goes to the most valuable player in the league. Ortiz has certainly proven his worth as a force on the Red Sox and as a force as a prime time clutch hitter. Add in the fact that Vlad and A-rod are not in the hunt for the MVP, and Ortiz, baring an August melt down, should be primed for the award.

Btw, Ortiz has more than two "tools". Not counting his one stolen base and triple this year, :), he happens to have power, rbi strength, pretty good average and the ability to hit in the clutch.

Runner on he's .308 with 17hr and 83 RBIs, with 2 outs and risp, he's .288/4/25. And with Bases loaded, .364/2/17. Oh, and just for grins, in his 9 games at 1st base, he has 7 homers, 13 rbi's and a .333 batting average.

*****************************
As a free side note that has no bearing on the official MVP but may in your own mind, Ortiz makes 6.5 million a year. Sure, for you and me that is our lifetime salary if we are lucky, but compared to the other big guys, they are all above double digits.

Vladimir Guerrero
Vladdy hits with power, brings in the RBI's, hits for average all without the protection that Ortiz has. He also has a stronger arm and more assists than Ortiz. Wait a minute, Ortiz doesn't even play defense! That means Ortiz is just a hitter! I thought MVP stood for Most Valuable PLAYER!

if the Blue Jays stay close..it should be Vernon Wells..mainly because he doesn have the supporting cast..Ortiz has Manny, Jeter has Arod, the White soxs have Dye,Thome and Konerko..if Jeter wins the batting itle that would help him alot..Mauer is starting to slide and Jeter is gaining..I hatethe yankees, but I am honest about his worth

David Ortiz is the logical choice, even though A-Rod beat him out last year.
I don't know if anyone will beat him this year, but if someone does,
I hope it's Jeter. Giambi would be good, too.
Go Yankees!

David Ortiz
37 Homers with the 2 he hit tonight
over 100 rbis
one of the most clutch hitters (3 walk off homers this year alone)
he has all these numbers and it is only July
he is the MVP
Jeter would have to be the runner up

for all those "people" that said david ortiz should win MVP, have you ever heard of a 5-tool player? ortiz has barely 2 tools, (hitting for average and power) a player like jeter fields great, is one of the best baserunners, has an amazing arm, is 2nd in the majors in batting average, and can actually hit for power occasionally.

Two dark horses to consider....Vernon Wells and Carlos Guillen. A lot of people are talking about how great a season Jeter is having, but Guillen's season is every bit as good on a team that wasn't suppose to win 80 games.

Guillen would get my vote, but sadly, he won't get anyone elses.
