Whenever things start failing in any respect, it could be a virus, but it could also be that your or someone operating the computer have/has shut it down incorrectly, gone in and done something with your registry or other sensitive programs. When you find something is not working right, go ahead and run a virus check with your antivirus software, whether it be AVG, Norton, or another software. PC Magazine has some good introductions to understanding computer security.

After you run a virus check, if there is no virus found, while this is not a 100% guarantee that you do not have a virus, go ahead and do diagnostics on it, using the tools given in your operating systerm. You can also use Norton Diagnostics, or something similar. Again, PC Magazine or one of the Ziff Publications, or another book in the reference section of your library can be very useful.

You can also subscribe to news groups organized around the type of software you use. Start to read them after you read the FAQ's, read up on your manuals and "how to's" which you can find using google and other search engines.

Sometimes it's as simple as you not having downloaded information to other memory saving devices, and trying to store too much on your PC. There are a range of things you can do to clear more space and get your computer running faster, from deleting cookies and temporary internet files, to cleaning your disk and defragging. Again, look up any words or phrases which seem strange or unfamiliar to you. Soon you will find yourself feeling more confidant, but remember --the technology is always changing, so this requires you keep up with your homework! Or find someone in your household, building, or neighbourhood who will help you.

Crashing, Error messages, Application Errors, Popup Adds, Slow, Slower loading than usual, Freezing, Things not working (like your sound, or programs), The computer shutting down when you try to turn it on, Blinking Internet Explorer, and just basically things that arn't working properly.

You should most definetely get Virus protection and Spyware/Adware protection. If you have protection already well then you must be sure to use it. You have to keep your protection updated. And scan your computer ATLEAST once a week, if not more depending on what sort of websites you visit or what programs you use. For example if you run a program like Limewire or Bearshare, then you should scan your computer more than once a week. You should also keep updated with Windows Updates.

I wouldn't run free virus scans, a lot of them actually install other viruses and then ask you to pay them to get rid of them.... I would find some anti-virus and run it........... symptoms are:
- slower than usual speeds
- error messages the appear for no known reason
- error messages that don't go away when the problem clears
- popups while at or when leaving a web site (most sites only open popups when they are first loaded or refreshed)
- missing programs (worst case scenario)

oh, and you will probably have at least one virus if you haven't had anti-virus for more than 6 months......... if you use the internet you will have spyware..........

Look at the little red light of power in the front of your computer. It'll usually start glowing very bright indicating that it's doing a lot of work that it shouldn't be doing. Then, your computer will slow down. Functions will begin to get erratic.

Then you know you've been hit by a virus.

Hope this helped and was simple enough.

Cheers.

There are tons of things that can mean you have a virus, not all viruses have the same effects, and there are other things besides a virus, spyware, addware, trojans, those are all their own catigories. But if there is anything out of the ordinary i.e. Running slower, lots of pop ups, settings have changed or other things like that, then you might have one.

you can get Windows Defender there, and it is good, Spysweeper is also good

Or if you want to pay money Bit Defender is the best anti EVERYTHING that i have ever used, and i have used a lot, just to test how good they are.

hi, there are such sign as, your computer run slower, annoying pop up ads, and your computer may often get down .

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox cann't delete spyware, but it can disable any adware and spyware to run in your browser.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox can edit which site/popup to block and unblock.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:
