F = (9/5)*C + 32
C = (5/9)*(F - 32)

Fahrenheit has 180 degrees between water freezing and boiling.
Celsius has 100 degrees.
Fahrenheit freezes at 32 degrees.
Celsius freezes at zero degrees.

With all this in mind, to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit multiply by 180/100 or 1.8 and then add 32 degrees.

From Fahrenheit to Celsius, take away thirty two degrees and divide by 1.8.

The other answers are mostly true but very boring.

Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit was a physicist
Anders Celsius taught mathematics

Most good universities should provide a conversion course for them both

They can then discuss the "problem" with shared understanding and, perhaps, reach a conclusion

OK - My answer is boring too!!!

Well... since I can NEVER remember the formula for it.. first I have to derive a conversion formula like this:

boiling water is 100 degrees C... and 212 degrees F
freezing water is 0 degrees C... and 32 degrees F

212-32=180
100-0 = 100

32 deg F = 0 deg C...so will have to subtract 32 (F-32)

100/180 = 5/9... (C is smaller numbers than F.. so this seems like it is reasonable.. 9/5 would make them larger)

5/9(F-32) = C

so let's check it for one that we know... 212F = 100C

5/9(212-32)= 5/9(180) = 5* (180/9) = 5*20 = 100

Here is the method of least memory, called the add 40 / subtract 40 method:

Add 40
Multiply by x, where x = 9/5 if you're going from C to F, 5/9 for F to C
Subtract 40

Done

No kidding, this really works; learned it in HS physics from an otherwise zero teacher.

Fahrenheit temperature conversion formulas Conversion from to Formula
Fahrenheit Celsius °C = (°F – 32) / 1.8
Celsius Fahrenheit °F = °C × 1.8 + 32
Fahrenheit kelvin K = (°F – 32) / 1.8 + 273.15
kelvin Fahrenheit °F = (K – 273.15) × 1.8 + 32

For Farenheit:
F = (9/5)*C + 32

For Celsius:
C = (5/9)*(F - 32)

C *1.8 +32 = F

lets try it with something we know, 100 C

100*1.8+32=
180+32=
212 , that looks good

of course for the other conversion you just go backwards

(F-32)/1.8=C

(212-32)/1.8=
180/1.8=
100 , hooray we did it again
