Anything that has a heavy gauge deck, and a cast iron sleeve in the engine cylinder. Too cheap and they fall apart from fatigue, too expensive and you are just paying for a name.
MTD owns just about every major brand except Deere now anyways.

you would be able to correctly be extra clever off finding for a good used mower. in case you need to p.c.. up a John Deere 4 hundred sequence that should be extra clever than a clean cheapo mower. while you're bought on a clean mower i might look at JD. They make a brilliant kit. I even have never been upset via a JD product. I also have a 1994 425 with 1000 hrs on it and characteristic yet to have a single subject. The paint is like new and it runs like new. Spend the extra $ and purchase a Deere.

Toro is ok. Most mowers won't last too long anyway no matter how well you maintain them. Planned obsolescence, you see.
