I'm not really familiar with your car, but on most cars that piece helps air get directed through the radiator. You can drive without it but be careful to pay attention to your temperature guage so you don't overheat.

It's protecting the engine compartment from the dust, dirt and water. It's not something that your car won't run without, but it's better to install it. I mean water splashing into the engine compartment may slowly do some damage, the serpentine belt can slip off if too much water gets on it, etc.

The cover on most late model cars was added to catch any small leaks so they would not hit the ground. Your car will run fine with out it.
