Offline can also mean not being connected to the Internet. When you disconnect from your ISP or pull out the Ethernet cable from your computer, your computer is offline. Some programs, such as Web browsers and e-mail programs, have an option to "Work Offline." This option disables the program's network connection, meaning no data can be transmitted to or from the computer. This option was more useful when most people used dial-up connections. They didn't want their computer automatically dialing their ISP whenever a program tried to access the Internet. However, since most people now have "always on" connections such as DSL and cable modems, there usually is no reason to work offline.

Offline means not connected to the Internet. When you work offline, you're viewing webpages and/or e-mails that are stored on your computer from the last time you were connected. If you answer e-mail while working offline, it will stored on your computer but not actually sent until you connect again.

Working offline is useful mostly for businesspeople who travel and don't always have a steady connection to the Internet available.

Some programs that companies use are like web pages, they send the information entered to a server somewhere. When they dont have the internet connection they have "copies of the web pages" saved to there computer, and they use those saved pages, to save the information. To send it later when they connected to the internet. You can also create a "offline internet", by saveing the page to work offline.. It does have limitations though....

If you work with stuff that is located on web pages... you can save a copy of those web pages on your computer so that you can be Offline when you work.. in otherwords.. not connected to the internet... then you can connect to the internet and transfer your updated files.. etc.

this used to be a MAJOR problem... back when internet access was $12 per hour.

Work off line, means use your computer while not on the net.

It usually comes up in the browswer where you can do very little, except load old pages, while offline.

it means you might be preparing a document you are going to prepare for work and you don't need to be online to use any type of external connection for anything.

Working offline means you don't need to facilitate any type of modem or network connection in the program you are using.
