There are no timing marks or keyways on this engine to time with. A special tool is inserted into the side of the block to bring the crank to TDC on #1, and a special tool is inserted into the ends of the camshafts to time the cams. The cam pulleys are free wheeling, and have no marks to time with, it is all done on the opposite end of the cams, with a metal straightedge that will only fit in the cams in one direction. If you have attempted repair without these tools, I would suggest you not try to start the engine, because it will cause damage. You will need these special service tools to time the engine. Ford dealerships have them. I would suggest a tow.

top dead center is where the #1 cyclinder is at the top of the compression stroke and there should be dots or lines or something in the pulley that the timing belt rides on

you have to have top dead center before installing the belt
