You hear on the news about how much french people hate immigrant muslims and even french muslims. Is that true? Would I be discriminated against in France for being a muslim?

I am french and VERY surprised to see what you seem to believe.
I grew up with morocan and algerian muslim people at school. Your medias may emphasize and create a lot of bulshit!
A lot of people from northern Africa emigrated to France and still do.
Don't worry. In France you are never asked your religion! and on top we do not care...

I don't think you will have to suffer from racism in France.
Here are so much muslim people everywhere you will always find a cousin somewhere.
The problem we had last Winter was because of the suburbs not because of religion.
If you really have no chance, one night you could meet a racist group, but it mights happen in any country of the world.

While it is probably safe you should be aware that an official French government report on the behavior of the security services admitted that French police often deal with individuals of North African origin in a manner which is openly racist and inappropriately harsh.

How can you believe that? It's because the media you think that.
The governement wants to install quotas for immigration (for african, asian,european...not for religion) like in US
You know, in France, because of media, lot of people think that american hate muslim people and mexican people. We saw lots of reports about the 11th september and the militia of the Mexican border
People beleive all that TV said!!!!
So come in France : no problem - you should'nt all beleive

You're not a muslim, are you? Regardless, don't adit to being one, don't even claim to be one. You'll be fine. Every country has its problems, but France is safer than Italy or Columbia

You can do this first test : just arrived at CDG airport you say loud and clear to the customs officer "Hello frenchy ! I am an american muslim integrist !!! HA ! HA ! HA ! HA !" and see what happens...

dont worry, u will be fine. Do u know any french? You will get by much easier and ppl will be nicer if you at least TRY to speak their language. Dont expect them to adjust to you, thats what they hate.

I didn't think that anyone but we Americans had anything to worry about. I'm serious. If you think it is not safe, don't do it. Your life is worth more thatn a vacation.
