A fast break is when a player that is on defense, reacts to a missed shot or a steal and takes off down the court and awaits a pass from a team mate who either steals the ball or rebounds it. Thus the first player is behind the opposing teams defense. He makes an easy 2 points. Jason is very good at reacting to such situations. Thusly, he is a great fast break player.

Fastbreak is an offensive strategy in basketball. In a fastbreak, a team attempts to move the ball up court and into scoring position as quickly as possible, so that the defense is outnumbered and does not have time to set up.

In a typical fastbreak situation, the defending team obtains the basketball and passes it to a faster player who sets up the fastbreak. That player (usually the smaller point guard) speed-dribbles the ball upcourt with several players trailing on the wings. He then either passes it to another player for a quick basket, or takes the shot himself. Recognition, speed, ball-handling skills and decision making are critical to the success of a fastbreak.

Fastbreaks are often the result of good defensive play such as a steal or a block, where the defending team takes possession of the ball while the other team has not adjusted.

If the fastbreak did not lead to a basket and an offensive rebound is obtained and put back quickly, this is called the secondary break.

Some teams rely on the fastbreak because of their speed, notably the 1980s Showtime Los Angeles Lakers and the present Phoenix Suns. A few great players leading the fast break are Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash, because of their great decision-making.

It is when you sprint down the court in order to get behind the defense for the easy basket. It often comes off turnovers or bad shots. Get it?

Usually its when you steal the ball and run down court with it (dribbling) and there is nobody covering you so its wide open to do what you want (dunk or layup). Usually you will see Jason Kidd do a layup because he can't dunk.

Its a fast pace basketball play..

Always running... and doing some long range pass to team mates..

Its very good.. You have your opponent thinking what will you do next, and you beat your opponent due to over fatigue.
