When the bastille was stormed in the French Revolution, a document revealed one prisoner titled "the man in the iron mask". No name was given and no such prisoner found, but it spawned a fictional character that continues to this day.

IT`S A BOOK and it wasn`t the French Revolution anyway.
In the book it was Phillippe the twin of The Sun King (Louis XIV) who was the rightful heir since he was born first.

Actually he was a French valet named Eustache Dauger, and he had nothing to do with the French revolution. The actual decree was that he not talk to anyone, not that any one couldn't see his face.

it was just a fiction everyone disliked the king so they perferred to think he wasnt the real heir to the throne.
