They would do ok out of the water if not for their skin drying out. They wouldn't be able to move very well, though. Haven't you seen "Free Willy"? It's a cute movie and answers your question very nicely.

Out of water they are too heavy, would make it difficult to breath.
Have someone heavy get on top of you and then try to breathe. Now you know what problems dolphins have when not supported by water...

Their skin will dry out in the air. They are made to live in the water but breathe air.

Because their skin is very delicate. It needs to stay wet and not exposed to too much sun.

They're dependant on keeping their skin wet.

They only have flippers, so they wouldn't really be able to move on land.

They prune up if the are outside of the water. Why? I dunno... I think its just some evolutionary joke.
