I am the american who is illegal in Ireland. To answer a few of the questions some of you asked me and to give you a better idea of what I'm up against I'll elaborate. For one I have my U.S. Passport. I am from Florida and was born and raised in the United States. I traveled here when I was 18 to get away from my father and his demands and ended up meeting a guy and wanting to live here. Seeing as how I was so young I had very little to recommend me for a work permit so I stayed illegaly to be with him. I will be 20 years old in September. I have not worked here. I have never commited a crime in my life so I have no warrants either here or in the U.S for my arrest. As far as I know there is no red flag in this country, especially for american citizens so I'm not really worried about them banning me from the country for too long a period. I'm just making sure that I'll be able to pay for my ticket and just go home. If they want to ask me questions that's fine. As long as I get home.

They CAN ban you from the country. Whether they will or not is something else. Why don't you enroll in university there? My family moved to Ireland in 1999, but the Irish government still will only give a five year visa.

If I were you, I'd place a call to the American Embassy there and see what they say. But Ireland can definitely keep you from coming back in.

From the sound of it, all you care about is just getting home. =) So, does it really matter whay they do? You'll have to go through it regardless.

Call someone at the American Embasy, and head to the airport =)

Haha.... that's why you 'call' the american embassy first - no one can arrest you over the phone! Remember anyways at the american embasy they are supposed to be on your side no matter how 'illegal' you are over there.

Ireland is a beautiful country, but there's no place like home. Good luck getting back to the States =)

Consult a priest. They won't expose you and will give you advice. Might have to go to church for a few weeks. Build a friendship with local church of your choice and have them help you decide what path is best. I'm not a believer. I just think this is a soft and easy way to go about deciding how to come to a happy conclusion. Be sure to open channels home too. Writing letters don't hurt also. Write family and keep the lines of communication open. I'm sure they miss you dearly too. Even if the way they show it sucks.

Then go buy a plane ticket and come back to the USA. Have a friend thats there find out the laws on immigrants in that country for you. Then you can have a better idea.
