Lusie age is between 54-70.she has sons and each sons has sons as many brothers they have. The combined number of sons and grandsons give lusie's age ? how old is she ?pls explain with answers

Let the number of sons Lusie has be N.

Each son has sons as many brothers they have,

i.e. N x N grandsons in total

Combined grandsons and sons is Lusie's age

N*N + N = N(N + 1)

Checking,

N = 1, we get 2
N = 2, we get 6
N = 3, we get 12
N = 4, we get 20
N = 5, we get 30
N = 6, we get 42
N = 7, we get 56 <=== correct answer
N = 8, we get 72

Since the range given was 54 - 70,

Lusie's age would be 56 years old.

If she has 2 sons, then each have 1 son = 2 grandsons = 4.
If she has 3 sons, then each have 2 sons = 6 grandsons = 9.
If she has n sons, then each have n-1 sons = n(n-1) grandsons = n + n(n-1) = n + n^2 -n = n^2
