Right Now the Best starting pitcher has to be FRANCISCO LIRIANO. No hitter can figure out that guy. The most runs he has given up since becoming a starter is 5. here's his line he is 12-2 with a 1.96 ERA, 137 strikeouts and only 32 walks in 138.2 innings pitched. and his WHIP is only .96. Now someone please tell me what starter right now has better numbers than Francisco Liriano. The guy is a stud, if the question was who has been the best starting pitcher in the last few years? Then I would say Roy Halladay or Johan Santana. but right now it is Liriano and no one should disagree with me.

I think you can't give it to any one pitcher. Pedro was dominant earlier in his career, but his fastball is losing a little on it, and he's lost some of his dominance. Webb is a great sinkerball pitcher, but Zambrano powers the ball by you. Johan Santana has the best changeup in the league, and Verlander has been good this year, but we'll have to wait a few years to see if he is the real deal or if this season is just a one shot wonder, and he'll just fan out to be a so-so pitcher, and the same thing with Weaver and Liriano. I just think that you can't give the award to any one pitcher, as each pitcher has his own strength that puts them in the same list as the others in your question.

The best starting pitcher right now is a Twin!
I would go with either Liriano or Santana. One of the many reasons the Twins will make the playoffs and do some damage this year.

Johan Santana

Left Hander, has excellent command of his pitches, throws hard and hits the corners. Batters never know what to expect on any count Santana's willing to throw a breaking ball or off-speed pitch. He does an excellent job "setting up" a hitter for a strikeout. Watching him right now is like watching Pedro Martinez in 1999.

Rodger Clemens - He is an undisputed future hall-of-famer. Every one of his starts this year has been great. He's amazing. He just needs a little run support . . .

Roy Oswalt - Another great Astro. He'll be around for a while. This guy's the real deal.

Francisco Liriano because he is a young phenom that goes out and gives a solid outing every time he goes out there. Plus I'm a Twins fan. I'm mad because they didn't get Soriano!!

Definitely Roy Halladay, he has been consistent all year, and in my opinion he single handily has kept the jays in the wild card race
