I am from Australia and have been in usa for a month. I am confused about the clothing section. There is the girls section, the juniors and the misses. Why is there a juniors section? All of the countries I have been to only have girls and womens section. The girls section go up to size 16 (which is for 16-17yrs old). Starting age 17 or 18, it's the womens section.

I am 15 yrs old, 162cm (which i think is 5'4'') and weigh 47kg (105lbs) which is ideal according to the doctor. I wear girls size 14 in clothes. So girls size 16 will probably fit me up to 17. Then what is the use of the juniors section? Also, the clothes in the juniors section seem so big. Why are they so big yet called "juniors"?

First off, us americans have a really hard time with numbers. We don't understand the metric system, or "military" time. So I apologize because I was raised in america, but I laugh also because I'm not american.

Anyways, they do this basically for marketing reasons. In america we're really big on the whole "teenage" thing. Most important part of life. So we need our own department in clothing departments.

The reason the clothing seems so big is also because of marketing. Even though a size is larger, they mark it as a smaller size, so that you will be more likely to buy it. For example: if you regularly wear a size 4, and you try on a size 6 and it fits, you will get angry and not buy it. But if you try on a 2 and it fits, you will get really happy and buy it just so you can have a pair of size 2 pants. That's all.

Don't let it confuse you that much. Just hold it up and if it looks like the right size, then it is. The size on the tag will tell you nothing.

The junior section crosses over in 'size' somewhat with the girls and misses sections...but they are SHAPED for a body that is developing....but not quite fully developed. The fit will usually be better there if you're past puberty but haven't had children. It's all about fit...not size. Also, the styles are geared towards a youthful mindset.

You are thin. Not all teenagers are thin. The juniors section is termed such because the clothing is the style that juniors (teenagers) like to wear. It's not really about the sizes so much as the types of clothing. You will be different sizes in different clothing brands as well.

ok... if you have been in the juniors department then you can see it has different styles from the girls and womans. it is totally different there.also.. seeing it is that teens are bigger than girls and have bigger hips... the sizes are different. i am 12 and i can almost fit in size 0.i just think the clothing styles are cooler.alot of the stuff there is "slutty".in some ways i agree with you.. but some of the girls stuff is to immature for a 15 year old to wear. hope you fit in!
