I don't believe the ego is really something separate or isolate of the whole person. Our negative regard to the ego, its simplest expression in language "I", is an isolationist form of social ideology named 'individualism' that has for its description an abstract description that relates negatively the individual to the concept universal humanity or state or family.

The ego (certainty) and anti ego (doubt) serve the reality principle, the safety system which makes possible a return to connection with reality.
