I disagree with ovid: The United States of America is a Republic at the Federal level, and a modified republic at the state level. I would also disagree with the claim that America is a theocracy: for that to be true, religion would have to encompass all levels of government, as the President does not have absolute authority over the workings of our government.
Theocracy is defined as:
"A government ruled by or subject to religious authority."
America has had a long history of Chief Executives who have been strong believers in Christianity, and it's never been an issue (since JFK and his catholiscism) until now.

it is a nominal democracy, intended to be a republic, which is a representative form of democracy but it has been hijacked by a single party that is affected by a religious agenda so is acting like a theocracy until this party in power is replaced. we need a regime change.
not a revolution but an honest election with accurate results.

I am not interested in distinguishing between "republic" and "democracy." I would simply say that we are definately a democracy (which so far as I'm concerned means that we are also a republic) and we are not at all a theocracy, ......... for reasons that r.azen just gave. Thumbs up, r.aven!
