A very good friend of mine who has 5 month old twins called me from the hospital this morning. She said that her hubby was home with her girls and he heard something fall in the living room he went running to see what it is, one of the babies was sitting on a bouncy seat on the floor, he said as he was running he tripped over the seat and fell on top of the baby, he said she started crying he picked her up and then she stopped he went to work came home and noticed something was wrong with the baby so they took her to the hospital and the doc said she has a broken leg. What do you guys think? I don't want to make assumptions but this guy has a bad temper.

You have to ask yourself, "why did she feel the need to call me from the hospital to tell me this?". Is she trying to make it known before people start talking or is she making sure it's known before people start talking? Do you know what I mean? She's either relying on you to help her assure everyone it was an accident. Or, she might be sending you a subtle clue as in, "I think my husband hurt the baby intentionally". An anonymous call won't hurt anyone, except maybe his pride. Would you rather be wrong and cause him embarrassment or be right and save these children from any further abuse (if that's the case).

Having a temper has nothing to do with falling on the baby. I do not buy that story. The baby was sitting on a bouncy seat and
he was running and trip over it on the baby. Well the story goes
like this, he trip over the seat therfore he should have avoided
falling on the baby. Another thing the baby suffered a broken leg,
he would not have been able to go to work before getting that
baby medical attention unless he sedated the baby to stop crying.
Anything broken causes severe pain.

I agree with the person who said don't make the assumption that he's guilty. In this day and age, I know abuse is all over the place, but don't make accusations unless you have more to go on than just "that doesn't seem right to me" or you risk ruining a good man's reputation. Especially considering if he's a really caring (but clutzy and unlucky) father, he probably feels horrible for it, especially that he didn't notice sooner that he'd hurt her. I mean, I walk into doors and corners all the time cause I'm a clutz. Add to that that I bruise easily, which means I usually have a big ugly bruise somewhere. But that doesn't mean my husband hit me, you know?

Like a couple of people have suggested, just keep an eye on him. If he's hurting the baby, you'll see more obvious signs, like more trips to the doctor than necessary, unexplainable bruises that happen a little too frequently, a lot of angry yelling all the time, etc.

I think it's great that you care so much. We need more people like you with all the child abuse that goes on in this country.

I think there is more to that story then what he is letting on. My mom used to babysit my cousin when he was little and i tripped over him and feel on him, he cried hysterically and we took him to the hospital. All was fine but to break a childs leg and not notice right away. I don;t see how. Tell your friend to watch him around the kids. Also to not worry about hurting the baby after falling on top of the child is crazy. Please tell her to be careful, babies are so fragile.

Don't assume the worse. Accidents like that could happen. I stepped on a couple of legos once, and ended up falling and spraining my ankle. All because of two legos that were not picked up. If there is any reason for concern, the emergency room doctors will spot it and will have an investigation started. Best of luck.

The doctor will more than likely have to contact CPS and there may be a case starting already. They would initiate an ivestigation and depending on where they live, the children may end up being taken away and both parents going to court for the legal matter.

sounds supicious. I knew of a guy who claimed to have fallen down the stairs with his baby and the child had a fractured skull and crushed eye socket. Really sounds like a fall huh? Good Luck, I hope everything turns out ok.

something just doesnt sound right here, for one, i dont think the baby would have stopped crying with a broken leg, i mean that is pretty painful. did he ever figure out what the noise was? and why wasnt he watching them in the first place? his story does not sound legit to me, i would say something else happened that he is not admitting.

accidents happen and baby bones are very frail, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions. I would just keep your eyes and ears open for anymore "accidents" that sound a bit fishy. give him the benefit of the doubt this time if he's a new daddy b/c new parents make a lot of mistakes.

When in doubt, you can always make an anonymous call to child protective services or the police. It is always best to do this when you are unsure-better a wasted visit than a dead child. Thank you for caring and good luck!
