Pay can vary for both depending upon your location, however I think a Pediatrician would make a little more because there is less liability and insurance that has to be paid. An Obstetrician has to consider all the liabilities of ensuring/insuring the birth. That is why the cost of labor and delivery is so much, it covers that insurance tab the Dr has to pick up.

It depends on how many patients each one has and referrals. You can't base it off money it's more than just that. Because if you look at it the insurance companies take a percentage too of what is coming in from patients so that's a factor. It really isn't known how much one truly makes in that line of work.

The correct answer is "it depends" -- what I mean is that it really does depend on the organizational structure the doctor chooses to operate under.

I know an OB-GYN who make millions because he has grown his practice to include himself and four other OB-GYNs who work for him. He makes money on babies all the time.

Conversely, a pediatrician may specialize in an area that driects all the young children to them -- as an ear, nose and throat pediatrician (for example). Essentially, every other Ped. sends children their way.

If they each operate as their own individual practioner with no other "pieces" to their practice, that would be the least lucratic practice -- especially as you take into account the cost of malpractice coverage these days.

More and more, doctors of all sorts are combining practices as I described above to cover day-to-day operating costs and insurance.

All that goes into account in determining who makes the most.
