With buying cars, do you go to the car dealership, someone shows you around, you find a car you're interested in, you take it on the test drive and you decide to buy it? Then what papers do you sign to get the car? Do they ask insurance information? What other information do they want out of you? Do you get a receit when you're done? How right or wrong am I on this?

It's a bit long story to describe a whole process, but basically you are right. Papers are more specific to the state where you live, because there are some differences. They do need an insurance info if you decide to buy a car. I'd suggest go to a couple of dealerships, test drive some cars you are interested in, but don't sign anything yet, say that you want to check more cars elswhere and then decide. This way you'll get some experience and will be able to compare different cars. And don't buy first car you see no matter what they tell you.

NO NO NO NO, decide on the car you want before you go to the dealership, get the dealer cost for said car from EDMUNDS or the BLUEBOOK (both on net), get financing before you go to the dealer if possible or make sure you can get financing, now go to dealer and say "I want this car and I will pay this much for it (Subtract $500 from the dealer cost before negotiations begin). Dealer will say everything and anything to deter you from your objective. Don't say anything. When he is all tuckered out repeat what you said before. Say " I want this car with this and this and this (list want you want like Auto Trans, AC etc) and preferably in this color. And I will pay this much for it (remember you researched the dealer cost of all this stuff before you went to the dealer.) Sorry its like a lamb going to the wolves when a young person goes to a dealership. Its very intimidating. Good luck.

Whatever you do DON"T let them sell you any options you didn't want when you came in the door. NO Rustproofing, Fabric Protection or any of that other garbage. The car will already have everything it needs. AND Definitely don't buy a Maintenance Agreement or Warranty Add On etc. They have one purpose and its not in your interest. Its to make as much money off you as they possibly can! And don't get a lease either. Car Leasing is probably the best money making racket for dealers ever dreamed up.

You go to a dealer..look around at their cars..new and used...a salesperson will come help you with any questions..

you find one you like..or many you like..test drive them..pick the one you like..the color..ect...and you buy it..or have it ordered (if new) from the factory/another dealer(which is best!..most dealers will do it)

you fill out credit forms...if you get approved they bring you proposals..you either accept or deny it...haggle with them to get the best deal..

they ask for insurance info..drivers license...basically all your info.

no reciept..a car..and off you go!

i do recommend searching the internet..dont buy right away..find something you like..come home and go to edmunds.com/nada.com/kbb.com bring up any info on the vehicles price/msrp..and what you should pay..take that info to the dealer..haggle from that information...

dont just look at ONE dealer..look at many kinds..i recommend acura/honda or toyota...Ford/mazda/nissan is the best for american made.
