i have taken a summer acting program.. nothing big, but i love it. i love watching people act on stage when they are really passionate about it and love it. it all seems so easy in my head, like i could just get up there and do it. but when i do get up there, my face gets red, i worry about how im saying it, if im loud enough, if im being over dramatic or not dramatic enough... what can i do to help this?

Start smaller. Really. Your looking at others who have started by looking in a mirror or doing it for years before you. Just do smaller public things. Street fair. You will make a breakthrough if you chip away slowly at it. Do walk on parts or non talking parts. Be an extra! Take a speaking class, but that idea even freaks me out. Attack the fear slowly, but steady. Give speeches at work or host a party. Be the center of it and circulate! Make yourself important by volunteering. You just need to come out of that shy shell that everyone has. Its about persistence and goals. How hungry are you? If you really want to do it. You will no doubt get past this in no time. SHINE!

What you are really afraid of, is failure, which means you want to do it right so badly, which means you have based your self esteem on the basis of how you perform up on the stage.

And that is not being fair on your self.

So get over that, and this fear will be banished forever, and act as if it all is really a 'play'! Playing it lightly, you can do better job, plus you will always enjoy yourself so much. The only way you can be sure of failing is when you try to be perfect as then you will not enjoy the 'play'.

Why do you want to give a Tony winning performance, each night, why not enjoy instead?

Its a lack of self confidence. Practice so that you know all the lines and movements on the stage etc. Its similar to driving a car, once you learn it and do it a little most people are fine. But it does vary... some are better than others. Often its more an issue of actual talent than it is skill. Good luck! LOL At least on the stage one can't harm themselves or others like with driving..... usually! LOL

It's called stage fright. Every actor gets it. Stop putting so much pressure on yourself. You enjoy acting right? Then just step out and have a good time. Even if you bomb, you'll have fun. You'll feel better and it'll come across in your acting.

Take more acting classes, especially classes, where there are a lot of warm-up exercises, prior to starting the acting class.

You may also benefit from yoga or meditation.

You might consider joining Toastmasters or some similar group.
In Toastmasters, you will be a very understanding group of people and you will get some good experience talking to a group of people.

if the other people in the play are over dramatic, you be over dramatic as well. Just practise and youll get it through!

keep practing... like they say: "practice makes perfect". this may sound a little arrogant, but tell yourself that you are the best person for the role you are acting in and no one can do it better. it may help you feel more confident.

Dont look their eyes, look their eyebrows.

Consider the audiences as a stone not human, that would help for me :) or consider them being naked like my friend used to do.
