#1 - Blues Brothers. Classic comedy. Some people don't find it funny, but, in my opinion, everything is funny. Maybe it's because I watched it waaay too many times?
#2. Monty Python and the Holy Grail - See reasons to #1, minus the "some peope don't find it funny"
#3. Good Will Hunting - Touching, a little sad, and funny at the same time.
#4. Forrest Gump - Need I say more?
#5 - Office Space - Hilarious movie.

Historically speaking I would say:
Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS-- wonderful special effects for its time; GONE WITH THE WIND never dies; THE WIZARD OF OZ;
BEN HUR for which the term "block buster" was invented; STAR WARS (Episode IV) because it redefined special effects; and THE LORD OF THE RINGS. I could really add a few more but this is six and you asked for five. All of these movies redefined the way people looked at movies.
Of course you should have been a little more specific with the question. Most people will put their person favorites but that isn't necessarily how top five of all time should be defined.

There have been a lot of great movies made over the yrs. A lot of favorites for everyone I'm sure, but to narrow it down to 5>>>>.Here's my top 5 for various reasons:In no particular order.****
Stagecoach(1939)----John Wayne(The Duke) & John =The Ringo Kid.{ I love all his movies} John Carradine as the undertaker was awesome & he also starred in The Shootist with John Wayne.
Gone With The Wind(1939 also)----Clark Cable, Vivian Leigh, Leslie Howard,Olivia DeHavilland,George Reeves{Who was found shot to death in 1959 & to this day of whether he killed himself or was murdered has never been answered.} The last but not least actress in this movie to make it a great classic & a part of history was Hattie McDaniel who became the 1st African American person to recieve an Oscar, as she won it for Best Supporting Actress.
A Few Good Men(1992)----Tom Cruise(I think this was his best performance in all the movies he's made.) Kevin Bacon(JFK>>Great movie also) Jack Nicholson^^^^What can U say????.He's a great actor.Demi Moore(G.I.Jane) Keifer Sutherland(24 fame now & a Canadian>>>>U go Kiefer, we're proud of you here in Canada)
Air Force One(1997)----Harrison Ford(Indiana Jones Fame & The Fugitive)Glen Close, Wendy Crewson(another great Canadian actress who appeared in Canadian shows such as Night Heat & Street Legal)
Paul Guilfoyle(Capt.Jim Brass on CSI-Vegas)
William H. Macey(Many movies & a stint on The 2000 t.v. Sports Night)
My last but not least favorite is a timeless classic:
The 10 Commandents(1956)----It had some of the greatest stars in Hollywood in it----Charelton Heston{Moses} Yul Bryner{Rameses} Ann Baxter{Nefretire} Vincent Price{Baka} E.G.Robinson{Dathan}John Carradine{Aaron}

16 Candles-because I love the teen movie.
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle- So funny, and it had doogie.

schindlers list, at the end when the real person and character walk hand and hand- very powerful.
the green mile -the closet I have ever seen to a stephen king book for a movie, misery was close but not as good as the book.
pulp fiction,resevoir dogs, and hostel- good clean carnage but could have more gratuitous sex, wickedly funny, and hostel was most disturbing for a few scenes and any movie that can provoke strong feelings good or bad is doing something right and a good flick
