I want to get out of my current apartment and move to a new one, but I heard that August is the worst time of the year to move. Should I stay put for a little longer, let's say til Nov/Dec, and then look again?

well, august is bad to move because it's hot and it's the end of the summer real-estate madness, but depending on what you're looking to lease, there are also some promotions that they have like no payments first month, etc. to entice college students to move in.

in November/December, while yes, the prices are lower because demand is lower, you also have to remember that there's less places to choose from.

just go with your gut and move whenever it's best for you, not based on a month or time period. you only have to find one perfect place, so the best thing is not to be rushed about it. look now, but if you don't find anything you like, don't "HAVE TO MOVE," just tell yourself you're pulling out and look in a few months! :) GOOD LUCK! :)

P.S. it might be hectic to move around the holidays, do consider that.

That depends upon where you live. In a college town, May and June are the best times as many students are leaving to go home for the summer break and there are plenty of empty rentals available.

In a vacation area, the off-season is best.

In an extremely cold area (Minnesota, or the Dakotas, for example) winter is the best. Folks hate to move then. The opposite would be true in desert areas.

Sept/Oct might be better than Aug in most other areas as most folks like to get moving out of the way before the kids go back to school.

At any rate, start shopping around now. You never know what might pop up!

It matters to both a potential tenant and the Management Company. Winter is your best bet as move-in's are lower at that time of the year and you will get a better monthly rate, move-in rate and deposit rate. I would stay put till then :)
