NO! Don't fix it yourself, especially if you still have a warranty. If you can't fix it, call your local game shop and see if they can recommend someone. And some take trade ins for old ones towards new ones.

Already answered this for another person. So, I'll just paste my response here. Although, as someone else said, if it's under warranty, give Sony a call. The new slim models have a 12 month warranty. The older models only had a three month warranty.
I would guess that the source is the servos that adjust the laser position.
That would mean that you are beginning to experience the Disc Read Error issue.
So, I would proceed to progress through the steps for addressing that problem.
The first thing to do is figure out if there is a specific type of disc that is causing the problem. Does it happen with DVDs (silver bottom PS2 games) but not CDs (blue bottom PS2 games)? If so, your DVD potentiometer may need adjusting. If it happens with both, it could be the slide rails are dry/worn on the tray or it could mean that the laser height gear needs some adjusting.
Below is a great guide for fixing these problems.
One note: When adjusting the pots, they say not to decrease the setting by more than 10%. They mean it. If you go crazy, you'll never get it working again without an oscilloscope.

I have this same problem. Believe it or not, some of the games that wont load will load if you set up your playstation a different way. I have a game that will only load when the PS2 is on its side, not standing up. Its weird. I have cleaned my PS2 before, the only down part of that is the warranty sticker gets removed or cut, voiding your warranty. Bring it to a repair shop. Good Luck
